While Covid-19 has seemingly slowed down and allowed us to return to our usual lifestyle, we saw huge racial gaps in vaccine and death rates in the United States. According to Kaiser Health News, "Total cumulative data show that Black, Hispanic, AIAN, and NHOPI people have experienced higher rates of COVID-19 cases and deaths than White people" much of which can be attributed to the unequal distribution of health resources. However, issues of employment, housing, education level, and income also play a huge role in these alarming statistics. People of color are more likely to be poor, work in industries that expose them to the virus, live in crowded spaces, and have chronic health conditions. In regards to the Covid-19 vaccine, when people first began to receive these immunizations, rates of vaccination were much lower in minority communities than white areas. It's important to bring these statistics to the forefront in order to urge local and national politicians that foundational change is necessary to prevent further racial gaps in medical services.
